A thermal imaging survey on electrical systems can identify faults or problems before they lead to a breakdown or potential fire.
Electrical surveys can identify poor connections, overloaded circuits, failing components or imbalanced loads. Any faults on electrical systems are expensive in terms of plant downtime, damage, loss of production or risk from fire.
We work with many insurers and offer an extremely good value package which ensures compliance with their requirements. Insurers often compliment us on our work and follow up activities.

Fuseboard Fault

Faults of fuseboards usually only come to light when they burn out or completely fail causing risk of fire or plant disruption. A survey will highlight problem areas and we will tell you in our report exactly what you need to do to repair the fault.
We regularly survey and locate faults on all types of electrical systems ranging from 132,000 volt power transmission systems through to industrial 415 and 12 volt systems. Huge benefits can be obtained from a quickly performed survey of your electrical distribution system and control panels.
Major Fault on Critical Supply to Hospital

This fault was identified during a routine inspection of a hospital electrical distribution system. Critical temperatures were found which if left much longer would have resulted in a major power outage and significant damage to a whole wing of the hospital. A planned shutdown was planned on the day of the survey and the repair was carried out successfully in just 15 minutes.
An electrical survey is ideally suited to identifying faults within electrical systems, because power does not need to be turned off and no direct contact is required.
Control Panel Fault

We have identified thousands of faults within control panels and switchgear. Very often the repair involves just re-tightening a connection but left alone would result in a burn out and plant downtime costing potentially thousands of pounds.
We recommend regular thermographic surveys of the following types of equipment:
- Fuse boards
- Distribution boards
- Busbar systems
- Control panels
- High voltage and medium voltage systems
- Power line connections and insulators
- Switchgear
- Electronic components
- UPS and battery systems
- PLC connections
- Motor control centres
Pixel Thermographics can carry out a thermal imaging survey to your own requirements or will offer advice on the extent of a survey.
Battery Charger Connection

Battery connections to fork lift trucks or cleaning machines are oven abused and damaged. We regularly identify faults on items which are very close to ignition temperatures. These pieces of equipment are often in secluded areas and left on charge over night which heightens the risk of fire and major damage to buildings.
Prior to a survey we will provide a full risk assessment and method statement detailing how we conduct the survey and the precautions we take to ensure our work is completed safely and efficiently.
PLC Connection Fault

Many people believe that thermographic electrical surveys can only be carried out on 240 volt systems and above. We have identified many problems on PLC and low voltage detection systems which very often have the potential to cause huge plant disruption. The problem shown above was caused by a faulty valve connected to this circuit.

Failing Crimp Connection

Any type of connection can fail. This simple crimp connection was identified during a survey at a university. Look how close the hot crimp connection gets to the paper schedule on the inside of the fuseboard door when it is closed.
33,000 Volt Line Fault

Our surveyors all have strong electrical backgrounds. We survey systems up to 230,000 volts. The fault above was located on a main feed to a cement manufacturing facility.
